Towards the sunrise

A glorious sunrise on what is called Kyiv Sea. It is really the Dnieper river, north of Kyiv. The colours of the water and sky were simply wonderful and a small boat came into the scene, still silhouetted from the early morning sun.

St. Michaels in the Snow

This St Michaels Golden Domed Cathedral in Kyiv. I took this after a heavy snowfall and at a time of day when the sun was on its way down. This is actually the back of the cathedral. I walk past this cathedral every day to work and always find it inspiring.

Palms reflected

Seville is known for its dusty hot weather. Occasionally though, even in high summer, one gets a beautiful sunset. This shot was taken looking at palm trees reflecting in a pond. The park is called the Maria Luisa Park, which is near the Plaza de Espana

Afternoon sun on Primrose Hill

London used to be famous for its fogs. They still happen from time to time. This photo was taken on one such afternoon. Here the winter sun is poking through the bare trees, creating a golden sky, through the mist and fog.

Rocks in the Sea

These rocks are on the Mediterranean coast in south east Spain, in Andalusia. The rocks are called Arrecife de las Sirenas. I was there just before sunset and here, with a long exposure, I was able to get a smooth sea that blends into the horizon.

Church on the peninsula

The church is called Sevanavank. It lies on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Seven in Armenia. This is a day time shot, with some interesting clouds as it looked as though a storm might be coming. This was taken in high summer and there were a lot of mosquitoes around!

Gomi Street, Tbilisi

Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, is fast becoming one of the must visit tourist destinations. This is a shot of a yellow painted balcony with the spire of the Upper Bethlehem Church in the background. I was fortunate to capture this on a day when the sky was also yellowish. With a little enhancement in lightroom and photoshop, I think the sky compliments the foreground providing the photo with balance.

This shot was taken on a wonderful early morning on the Dnieper River, north of Kyiv in a place commonly referred to as Kyiv Sea.

Autumn view in the Sierra Nevada

This was a surprise shot. Sometimes they work out well. On a walk in the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia, a sudden turn around, and there was the sun poking through these trees. This is a bracketed shot of three exposures, enabling me to pull out the full highlights and shadows of the scene.

Narikala and the river at night

This is a shot taken in the early evening in Tbilisi, Georgia. What was interesting that evening was a dramatic cloud formation moving over the old town that provided a perfect backdrop to the Narikala Fortress and its surrounds

Yachts at the harbour wall

An early morning shot in the picturesque town of Collioure in France. Two yachts were moored and with the harbour wall providing a balance, the mood is of serenity with the possibility in the sky of something else.

Real Alcazar Baths

Inside the Real Acazares in Seville are these beautiful baths. While it is very dark and one often sees shots that make the baths look rather drab, here I used a long exposure of around 8 seconds and then in post processing boosted the colours to create this image. The baths themselves are called the Baths of Lady María de Padilla and are in fact rainwater tanks.
